My Renewal of Faith

I want to take a minute and discuss something I usually do not share with many people. I have always been a God fearing man, but did not grow up in a church environment. I have always kept faith in Christ, even though I took the power of God for granted at times.

My first born son was finally given to me in 2002, and his name is Gabriel, my messenger. He was named for two reasons, he was my message that I could reproduce, and also after our dog at the time. My wife was having complications and began to miscarry when the dog, who never was a licker, woke her up by licking her face. This brought out the faith a little stronger, but still was not as life changing as it should have been.

My second born son, Noah, is where the true power was demonstrated. At two weeks old, he developed Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Again, a dog we had just gotten, alerted us to him struggling for breath in the late hours of the night. When we arrived at the hospital, he had been breathless off and on. By the time the amazing response team reached him at the ER, he had been without breath for close to ten minutes. The ER doctor had actually called them off, but they had to assess the situation because they were on scene and could not leave by code. The Chaplin had been with us only a couple minutes when they had him intubated and on his way to the children’s hospital.

We met them there and they were already sucking out his lungs which lasted over a month as he remained in the ICU on a ventilator.   A neurologist had told us he had brain damage and would be epileptic, and slow due to the lack of oxygen to the brain for the amount of time he wasn’t breathing. Without the Ronald McDonald House and the Shriners, we would never have been able to satisfy the initial bill,  or have afforded secondary treatment. The most amazing eye opener occurred a year later when he no longer showed any brain damage, nor was he having seizures anymore.

Now, 9 years later, he is a rambunctious boy with no effects from his illness. He is smart, very witty and hilarious. He has played sports, though he didn’t care much for them. He is our miracle, and a true testament to the powers of our creator.

  1. Very moving how God uses our pets as his messenger when needed. You have obviously recognized how blessed you are and your testimony is a beautiful example of His further blessings. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Thank you for sharing this. His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. God Bless you and your family.

  3. That is so awesome. I know you and your wife are simply thrilled with what our Father gives daily. May y’all be richly blessed and may you continue to walk hand in hand with faith.
